Summary:

Website: http://www.Match.com

Price: $29.95-$119.00

Age of site: Over 18 years old

Rating: 5 stars out of 5

Competitors: PerfectMatch.com , eHarmony.com , Plentyoffish.com

Promotions: The promotions vary. Sometimes they offer a 7 day free trial, other times they offer a 3 day free trial. There is always free shipping (wink wink) and on very rare occasions there is a free communication weekend. See above for recent coupons and discounts for Match.

Pros: There are hundreds of thousands of members on the site. If you can’t find the love of your life, or a least a date for the weekend, you might want to stick to the bar scene. The prices are also very reasonable, as compared to some of their competitors (like eHarmony) who charge a lot more. You also get to browse other members profiles and send them as many emails as you want.

Cons:
Some say that Match reminds them of a bar scene. That’s not saying that there are a ton of drunk people on there, but a lot of different types of people. A recent study found that they were responsible for many marriages. So there is something for everyone on there. You just need to spell out what you’re looking for so there is no confusion from those whom you chat with.

Review:

Hello, after 12 months of being single, I find myself returning to the online dating websites. I’m going to be reviewing Match.com. I have tried other online dating services such as eHarmony and Perfect Match, but nothing really panned out.  Back in the day, I used to use Yahoo! Personals and inevitably would strike gold and meet a really cool and really cute girl that I would wind up making my girlfriend.  So it’s been a few years since I have used the online dating sites. I come to find out that they bought out Yahoo! Personals, then merged their databases to create a huge super dating website. Several friends of mine said that once they bought out Yahoo Personals, they noticed that they were getting a lot more dates.

The monthly prices are comparable with other online dating sites of this nature. eHarmony and PerfectMatch (and to some extent Chemistry.com) tend to cost a little bit more, and you really don’t get too many more potential dates.

The overall feel to the website (once you purchase a membership) is bright, airy and open.  There are many things to do, such as checking your daily matches, reading any emails someone might have sent to you or browsing for new members.  Everything is laid out so it’s easy to find.  There are many features I can use such as “VIP Email” which lets the person whom I’m attempting to communicate with, know that I think they are special enough to warrant me sending my one VIP email that I get every week. Little things like that work like a charm.

However, as easy as it is to use, there are quite a few “do’s and don’ts” to Match. For example, you should never “wink” at someone on there. It totally makes you come off looking like an insecure wimp.  That is, if you’re a guy.  If you’re a girl, go ahead and wink at as many guys as you can. There’s nothing wrong with that.  But if you’re a guy, grow a pair and reach out to girls that you think are you or that you think you might want to get to know a little bit better. You don’t have to write them a 10 page email (and you shouldn’t….it’s a bit creepy). All you need to say is “Hi, how was your weekend?” You’d be surprised how many women responded to me after I used a simple opening line like that. Short and sweet. Leave a little to their imagination. Women like to feel things, it’s how they are naturally. So create a little bit of mystery or romance when you communicate with them.

Another thing you should do is put up more than one picture. The reason is simple: On the site, you’re allowed up to 23 pictures (if memory serves me correct. So use more than one! Women tend to get hit on by a lot of creepy guys on there. So here you come along with only one pictures….what do you think you’re odds are of her writing you back?  Women, on average, get up to 5x more emails than guys do. So with all the guys vying for her attention, you had better be on top of your game. Filling out your profile accurately and honestly is another great way to alleviate her initial fears about talking to someone new on an online dating site. If you don’t have many pictures of yourself, use the webcam on your computer to take a quick snapshot. It’s that easy!
